Fact Sheet: White Clover, Trifolium repens

White clover is a member of the Leguminosae family, which includes peas, beans and peanuts. It is considered beneficial to the natural or organic lawn due to its ability to fix nitrogen.

All parts of the plant are edible and have been used for centuries by Native American Indians to treat conditions such as the common cold, coughs, gout, and rheumatism. Plants have been used in raw form added to salads, or making clover blossom tea.

White clover is the sole host to the caterpillar of the Case-bearer Moth, Coleophora mayrella.

Origin: Native to Eastern Mediterranean and Asia
